What Is Divorce Coaching?

by | Feb 16, 2022 | Divorce

SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO WHO HELPS YOU NAVIGATE YOUR DIVORCE AND CONFLICT WITH DIGNITY AND POWER.

It is not always desirable, practical, or necessary to hire a lawyer to represent you in your family law dispute. You might have a lawyer already and want help from someone else to serve as your coach, mentor, or guide regarding the non-legal aspects of your family law problem. Maybe you need help dealing with the emotional aspects of your family law problem.

Family law problems often involve a spouse, parent, or partner who has a high-conflict personality type, such as a Narcissist or Borderline. A coach could be the perfect ally for you to help guide you through the rough patches and challenging behaviors. Whether you need a Coach to help you handle your divorce on your own or you want a coach to help you navigate the conflict while remaining centered and mindful, we have resources to make the process as easy as possible. You can have a licensed Florida Attorney with a Masters in Dispute Resolution walk you through the divorce process and review your forms and settlement proposals. Or, maybe you want a Trauma Certified, Licensed Florida Attorney with a Masters in Dispute Resolution, and Certified Yoga Instructor to help you put your divorce in perspective and give you tools to help you navigate the divorce conflict. Or, maybe you want both! AJ Grossman Coaching A Divorce Client

WHAT IS COACHING

The definition of coaching depends upon who you talk to. Our coaching services are designed to help guide you through your legal matter, whether it involves a divorce, custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, mediation, paternity, modification or enforcement. Your coach or guide will help you avoid the pitfalls of going through it alone. Navigating the legal system for most people is like trying to navigate a dense forest with no compass or map. You don’t know what to look for…what could be helpful and what might be harmful. Having a coach as your guide can save you from disaster.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS

The following list are just some of the benefits of having a coach:

  • you will be able to avoid the pitfalls other people never anticipate or see
  • you will have more confidence and be more self-assured when your legal case gets tough
  • you will have more effective tools to use to keep your emotions from taking over your life
  • you will be able to respond to difficult people more effectively
  • you will know how to more effectively deal with a spouse or parent of your child who has a high conflict personality, such as a narcissist or borderline
  • you will be in a better position to protect yourself from high conflict
  • you may be able to reduce the conflict in your legal matter which will likely save you a lot of time and money
  • you will have a guide who can help you view your conflict from a more objective perspective

LAWYER AS YOUR COACH

Using your lawyer as your coach is not the best choice for at least a couple of reasons. First, your lawyer’s hourly fee will likely far exceed the cost of a coach. A coach will cost you somewhere between $75 and $150 per hour. While your lawyer will probably charge you somewhere between $250 and $500 per hour or more. Your lawyer’s job is to uncover and understand the important facts of your situation and then apply those facts to the law. He or she is also your counselor regarding legal and extra legal issues. They are not your therapist and are not fully equipped to help you through the highly emotional aspects of your divorce.

FEEL EMPOWERED

A coach can help you feel empowered in your legal situation. You may feel more power or more control over yourself and your reactions to situations that may come up during your divorce or other legal matter. You will have more knowledge and understanding of what the other person is doing or trying to do during your dispute.

AVOID DISASTER

Trying to navigate a legal conflict on your own is like trying to find your way out of a dense forest without a guide or a map. You are likely to spend a lot of time missing things you should have seen and seeing things you should have avoided.

MANAGE THE HIGH CONFLICT PERSONALITIES

Narcissist and borderline personality types can react havoc in legal disputes and leave others feeling confused, frustrated and exhausted. A conflict coach will help you identify what is happening and equip you with useful, effective tools to help you manage the high conflict in your divorce or other legal conflict. Narcissists and borderlines are master manipulators. Once you understand who they are, what they fear, and how they manipulate, you will be in a much better position to protect yourself and achieve your goals.

ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

When you are in the middle of a divorce and embroiled in the intense emotions that accompany divorce or other legal conflict, it is difficult to keep your goals in sharp focus. There are a myriad of things that can happen that will distract you from your goals and side-track your efforts. A coach can help you keep your goals in focus and keep your efforts on track.
