Calendar Time Blocking Priorities | LEAP Podcast

by | Aug 1, 2022 | Podcast

Time management is perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of entrepreneurship.

I’m 55, and I’ve worked in Fortune 500 companies, owned my own businesses, and attended time management workshops, webinars, and seminars. The number one tip that has stayed with me this entire time is to make sure that you’re blocking time on a calendar for the things that you feel are a priority and important in your life.

Important things that you need to block out time for can include lunch, taking breaks, breaks with family, answering emails, making phone calls, etc.

Unfortunately, if you don’t block out those times, these things have a tendency to fall to the wayside and never get done.

If you find it to be something important, mark that time off and stick to it. Otherwise, you won’t do it.

In this video, I’m going to talk about a time management tip that I love for entrepreneurs. Hi, everyone. I’m A.J. Grossman, divorce lawyer, and owner of Leap Frog Divorce.

So I’m 55 years old today. And not that today’s my birthday, I’m just 55 years old. And I’ve worked in Fortune 500 companies over the years, I’ve owned my own businesses over the years. And I have attended a lot of time management seminars, webinars, and workshops. And I’ll tell you, the number one tip that has stayed with me, and that still works for me today, is blocking time on your calendar for those things that you believe are a priority and that are important for you.

You know, I heard somebody recently say that, if you want to show me and you want me to understand what you think is important, show me your calendar. And I’ll tell you what you think is important.

So for those important things, you absolutely must block out time on your calendar. That includes lunch, working out, reading, watching videos, listening to audiobooks, taking breaks to sit out by the pool or walk in the garden or taking a break with a family member to walk around the block. That includes focus time, focus time to actually get work done. Time to return phone calls, time to check emails. Regarding email, specifically, one of the greatest tips I got was if you can block out specific times on your calendar to check email. And when it’s not time to check your email, shut it down. Don’t leave it open.

Why? Because emails are coming in all the time. Maybe you’re one of those people that gets hundreds of emails every day. They’re coming in by the minute. And if you have your email program open, as soon as that ding goes off, or you get that notification on your screen, what’s going to happen? Likely you’re going to jump, and you’re going to go check that email. So if you can schedule a specific time every day, or maybe two times every day or three times, whatever works for you, but get it on your calendar.

So that’s my number one tip today for time management for entrepreneurs. Block time out on your calendar for what’s important. If you don’t block out the time, it’s not going to happen. I hope you enjoyed this video. If you have, please like and subscribe. I hope you have a wonderful day and be well.
