When I talk to people, I will often say in response to the question, “Well, how much is this going to cost?”

And I’ll say, well, think of divorce as a dance. Usually, in a dance, it takes two people moving in sync with each other. If one person is out of sync, that’s going to cause an issue, and that dance is going to take a lot longer.

Same thing with a divorce.

Somebody I’m speaking with could say, “Well, I really want an amicable divorce.”

Well, that takes two. So if somebody’s partner doesn’t want an amicable divorce, it’s going to cost more.

Then I say, then there’s another variable, and that’s the attorney that your spouse decides to hire.

They could have a mindset like we do, or they could have a mindset where they take every case to trial. Even though our client is doing everything, quote unquote, “right,” their case is taking longer and costing more because of the other person.

Like you said, whether it’s the other party or the other attorney.
