Leap Frog Divorce: Want to Know How Divorce Works

Want to know how divorce works?
The way your divorce will work depends upon which option you choose, and there are a lot of options.
Sometimes a divorce begins when you or your spouse decide it’s the best option. In fact, the two of you might decide together that divorce is your next step.
Whatever option you choose, whether it’s collaborative divorce, divorce mediation, collaborative mediation, pre-suit negotiation, or divorce court, there are certain things that must happen.
If you are parents of minor children, a decision will need to be made about who’s going to be responsible for making decisions for your children.
In Florida, the default decision is that the two of you will cooperate and make decisions together.
If you own things like a home and cars, a decision is needed about who’s going to get those things. You will need to put values on these items as well.
Likewise, if you have debts, a decision will be made about who’s going to be responsible for each debt.
In some divorces, one of you might need some ongoing financial support. This is called alimony. So a decision will be made about whether one of you needs support, how much is needed, how much the other person can support, and how long one of you will pay support.
If you have children, a child support amount will need to be calculated. Your children have a right to be supported by both of you before and after your divorce. The amount is calculated based upon a formula according to each family’s unique circumstances.
For your situation, there may be other things that need to be decided.
So please get the help and answers you need.
